Lights,
Camera, Action Potential!!
Basic text for lay
persons, with some illustrations about the physiology of nerve cells, by
Dr. Eric Chudler, in "Neuroscience for Kids"
-
The
Virtual Neurophysiology Lab
An on-line interactive
lab, in Java, which allows the student to carry out virtual "experiments"
with a leech's nervous system. Developed by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute
-
MyFirstNEURON
page
This is a simulation software for membrane
phenomena and for learning the electrophysiology of the neuron. Developed
by Arthur Houweling, The Salk Institute, La Jolla, EUA.
-
The
Nernst/Goldman Simulator
Excellent software for on-line simulation
using Java. It permits the learning of the Nernst/Goldman law (resting
membrane electrochemical equilibrium), and extensive experimentation. Developed
by Steven Wright, Univ. Arizona, USA.
-
The
Membrane Potential
An extensive and in-depth text for learning
the basic phenomena underlying the membrane potential, by Dr. Steven Wright
(Univ. Arizona). Read the text then perform the experiments, using the
Nernst/Goldman simulator.
-
The
Sodium Pump Calculator and the Nernst
Equlibrium Potential Calculator
A set of two static simulations (equation
solvers) with the aim of teaching membrane physiology, developed by T.M.
Dwyer at the Dept. of Physiology, University of Mississipi at Jackson,
MI, USA. See also the paper
published on the American Journal of Physiology. There is also a number
of lab
exercises in the form of quizzes and a set of on-line
slide shows.

Methods
in Neuronal Modeling : From Ions to Networks
A specialized book by Christof Kock and
Idan Segev, Christof Koch, teaches how to simulate membrane phenomena,
action potentials, neural networks, etc., using computers. Highly advanced,
has mathematical models in basic neurobiology.
